The objective of this project was to renovate the existing partitioned finished basement into an open area that would serve multiple purposes for the family. The goal was to remove as many structural and non-structural walls as possible, to provide a large open space that would still maintain the feel of separate areas for different activities. The client’s vision was for a basement to encompass space for exercise, media, children’s playroom, gaming, future wine bar and music activities.
This complex project included many structural challenges that required creative solutions to achieve the client’s ultimate vision, on a strict budget. Special design features such as the conversion of an existing exterior boat door to a window and the arched and double treyed ceilings resulted in tremendous value to the homeowner. The completion of the new area resulted in additional square footage, thus increasing the market value of the home.
